Launch of the Good Practice Guidelines

Today has seen the launch of the ‘Good Practice Guidelines’ for the welfare of privately kept reptiles and amphibians. This document underpins the Animal Welfare Act 2006 and sets out the steps keepers need to concider to ensure they are complying with the legislation. This document has been drafted by the Federation of British Herpetologists (FBH) in conjunction with the Reptile & Exotic Pet Trade Association (REPTA), the Ornamental Aquatic Trade Association (OATA), the Pet Industry Federation (PIF), the British Veterinary Zoological Society (BVZS), the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA), The Pet Charity (TPC), Tortoise Welfare UK and many clubs and societies.

This document has been endorsed by the UK Government and is the first such set of guidance to be adopted for the companion animal sector. This Document sets out guidelines to protect the welfare of privately kept reptiles and amphibians.
